Rachel Armstrong

Rachel Armstrong is Professor of Experimental Architecture at Newcastle University, Rising Waters II Fellow for the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation (April-May 2016), TWOTY futurist 2015, Fellow of the British Interplanetary Society, 2010 Senior TED Fellow. Rachel is coordinator of the Living Architecture project, a 3.2 million euro EU-funded project that establishes the principles for our buildings to share some of the properties of living things e.g. metabolism, operating at the intersection of architecture, building construction, bio-energy and synthetic biology. She is founder of the transdisciplinary Experimental Architecture Group which has been published widely as well as exhibited and performed at the Venice Art and Architecture Biennales, the Tallinn Architecture Biennale, the Trondheim Art Biennale, the Palais de Tokyo (Paris), the Institute of Advanced Architecture, Catalonia (IAAC), the University of the Underground (Amsterdam), Design go arkitektur Norge, Oslo and the Gallatin School, New York University.
